A. SAND COMPACTION PILE
I. SUMMARY:
1) Principle
- This construction method is to improve soft soil ground by forming a large diameter sand column by  injecting sand into the soft ground using vibration and impact load.

2) Application

It is because one SCP apparatus can change its positions freely and install sand piles even at the places where structures are very heavy or very large, where construction time must be reduced absolutely or where even stronger and securer improvement is needed.

-  Reduction of time and quantity of consolidation (drainage effect)
-  Residual settlement is stabilized in a very short time.
-  Prevention of uneven settlement

III. CONSTRUCTION METHOD AND SEQUENCE

Mark the target position with red cloth by means of surveying.
  - After operating a vibro-hammer, start to penetrate the casing while monitoring current and depth.
  - Suspend penetration when the depth reaches the design value.

Open the valve to decrease the inner pressure of the casing and then pore sand into the casing.

Pull out the casing confirming that depth gauge of the sand surface drops.
  - When the sand surface depth inside the casing becomes 1.5 meter or so, suspend the penetration.
  - Penetrate the casing to the specified depth confirming the sand surface depth. (Discharging sand by compressive air).

Close the quick discharge valve and open the inner pressure valve. Then re-penetrate the casing to the specified depth.

Repeat  step to .

When the depth gauge approaches around one meter form the ground surface, close the inner pressure valve and suspend the air jet.

Pull out the casing with the quick discharge valve opened until the casing tip is separated completely from the ground surface.

Move the other construction position.
